Day 4 of the Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) Grand Final is due to get underway later today, with Daniel Negreanu one of the eight players making it all the way through to the final table.
At the beginning of Day 3, 24 hopefuls returned trying to make the last eight. A short-stacked Humberto Brenes with K-J then fell in 22nd against the A-3 of Martin Santos, followed later by other notable players such as Caio Pimenta (12th) and Mayu Roca (11th).
When just nine players remained, a short-stacked Joshua Ewing (USA) with pocket fours then raised all-in for 230k, only to run into the pocket kings of Gasperino Nicolas. With no help from the board, Joshua Ewing was out in 9th for R$22,390 (US$12,922), while the final table was set for Day 4, with the chip counts as follows:
1. Daniele Nestola (Germany) 1,892,000
2. Carlos Ibarra (Chile) 1,297,000
3. Gasperino Nicolas (Venezuela) 1,190,000
4. Jonathan Markovits (Ecuador) 991,000
5. Daniel Negreanu (Canada 702,000
6. Juan Gonzalez (Argentina) 548,000
7. Felipe Morbiducci (Chile) 347,000
8. Vitor Torres (Brazil) 273,000
By even getting this far, Negreanu becomes the first player ever to make final tables at all the major PokerStars sponsored tours, namely the LAPT, APPT and EPT. However, the Canadian pro will instead have his sights firmly focused on the R$324,600 (US$187,348) top prize, although he will have a lot of work to do as he is currently lying 5th in chips.
On Day 2, Negreanu ventured out to the watch the Carnival, but last night decided to give himself the best chance of victory by relaxing at his hotel instead. As he later tweeted:
“Made the final 8 with 702k resume tmr 12pm Brazilian time. Going to be a good boy tonight and get some much needed rest.”
Live updates of the action from Sao Paulo are available on the PokerStars blog, but don’t forget to check back here tomorrow for the final result.
